Reusable pee pads

We hate to create landfill trash at our homestead. For this reason, we use washable pee pads for our animals. This is a brand we used with the golden retriever puppies we adopted in 2023. They are reasonably priced, have held up well beyond the potty training period for our dogs, and they are very well made. These pee pads are quilted with a binding around the edges. The back has anti-skid material.

The pee pads are perfectly sized for crates (we used them in the crate that the puppies slept in at night). They wash up nicely. I line dry them, but from what I understand you can slip them in the dryer.

We have held on to the pee pads even though the dogs are well past their potty training. I keep them washed up and in a storage tote. Around a homestead things happen with animals all the time. I’m sure these will come out for the next animal crisis we have.

Here’s a tip for those starting out: Never get rid of old towels, t-shirts, blankets, etc. When something is no longer suitable for humans, it goes in the tote of “animal fabric”. You never know when you will need it, but every homestead faces an animal crisis eventually. This tote of animal fabric will come in very handy to ease an ailing animal someday, and you will be very happy you had it readily available.

One other tip. Be sure to wash animal fabric with unscented detergent and do not use dryer sheets. Keep your animals away from scents and chemical additives as much as possible. Many animals have very sensitive noses and smells and chemicals can effect them. Your animal will thank you. -Bren
