If you are looking for a good bean seed for your homestead garden, this is one I recommend. I like growing bush beans in the garden because they don’t require poles or trellises to grow up on. This variety will give you abundant beans and are perfect for canning or freezing. They are tasty and super easy to grow. – Bren

(Phaseolus vulgaris). These seeds were introduced in 1957 by E. M. Meader at the University of New Hampshire. The 5-6” pods are a bright purple color. When cooked, the pods turn dark green.
Seeds will germinate in cold, wet soil. Seeds can be started indoors or direct seed. Plant 1” deep and 4” apart. Seeds will germinate in 7-10 days. Soil needs to be well-drained and rich in organic matter. Nutritional value of soil needed is moderate. Water needs are moderate during growth and heavier at harvesting period. Beans require full sunlight and need 50-60 days to mature.
These are an absolute “must plant” for me every year. I don’t care for the “stringy” beans and these are perfect. I also like that they are a different color than the bush and so much easier to spot and pick than the green varieties. They can well, too. A definite recommended variety. – Bren
